Have you ever wondered what it takes to put on a race? As runners, we target our races, train appropriately, register and pay our fees, show up, run, eat a bagel and go home. That was easy! But, what made all that possible? The BRRC sponsors 24 races throughout the year including track events, trail and road races. Each of these events is managed and directed by our own members who volunteer their time and energy.
If you are interested in learning more about race directing, please join us for this presentation at The Falls Road Running Store. Learn first hand from our experienced volunteers who will share the details of the process, and consider stepping up as a Race Director.
Refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP by emailing BRRCInfo@gmail.com or using the Socializr invitation so we can plan accordingly. We hope you will join us!
There is no charge for this event

Marathon Kids Kickoff Celebration

Saturday, September 18, 2010

Marathon Kids is coming back to Baltimore! (and we're looking for volunteers!)

Marathon Kids is a 6 month running/walking and nutrition rewards program for K-5th graders designed to combat type II diabetes and childhood obesity in low income and minority groups hardest hit by these epidemics. Through their school PE programs and at home, children are challenged to run/walk a marathon distance of 26.2 miles over the course of 6 months. Like a real marathon, the program only gives awards to those who complete the full distance.

The CBS Evening News recently did a story on the Marathon Kids program. Check it out! (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/05/27/eveningnews/main4130458.shtml)

Marathon Kids is free to all participants and is open to students from Baltimore City and Baltimore County public schools and private schools. To learn more, please visit http://marathonkids.org.

The Baltimore Marathon Kids Kickoff Celebration will be held Saturday, 9/18 at the Poly-Western High School track in Baltimore. The Baltimore Road Runners Club is supporting this program again this year and encourages members to volunteer to make the kickoff event successful. Volunteers shifts are available throughout the morning, and count toward fufilling the volunteer requirement of the BRRC Grand Prix Series.

If you can help out, please contact Christy St. Clair at saint15@comcast.net.

Saturday Long Runs
7:00AM or 7:30AM Saturdays throughout the year
alternating between
NCR Trail Papermill parking lot (map)
and
Loch Raven Drive at Morgan Mill (map)

    follow BRRCGroupRuns on Twitter

BRRC holds group long runs on Saturday mornings throughout the year. There is no charge for this program. Visitors and non-members are welcome to participate.

The runs alternate between the NCR Trail and Loch Raven Reservoir, so flat and hilly courses are both covered. Occasionally the group will meet at other venues for variety, such as with other groups led by a BRRC member, supported runs on the Baltimore Marathon course, or at local races. Early start times also occur as the weather gets hotter and some participants go further. Please read the Twitter announcements above for the location and start time on the day you plan to attend!

Distance and pace vary as runners with similar goals work together. Runners not targeting the marathon are welcome to run a shorter distance.

This year the program is being led by Ann Fraker and Bart Rein. If you have questions please email BRRCInfo@gmail.com.
