It is never too late in the year to add something new to our calendar, and the only reason we have a calendar is because of the volunteers who direct races. Check out the opportunity to learn more about race organization below.

The 2010 GPS Standings have been revised, with 6 of 8 races complete. Associated expiration dates are from the 8/4/2010 data. If you joined or renewed after this date it will be reflected in the next revision of the standings. Note your membership must be up-to-date before the final GPS race on 11/14 if you want be included in the GPS awards or receive a series t-shirt! Note:This is the first race for which GPS Series participants were eliminated if they will not be able to complete the series. The scores of such participants in previous races "rolled down" to those still in contention in the series.
Have you ever wondered what it takes to put on a race? As runners, we target our races, train appropriately, register and pay our fees, show up, run, eat a bagel and go home. That was easy! But, what made all that possible? The BRRC sponsors 24 races throughout the year including track events, trail and road races. Each of these events is managed and directed by our own members who volunteer their time and energy.
If you are interested in learning more about race directing, please join us for this presentation at The Falls Road Running Store. Learn first hand from our experienced volunteers who will share the details of the process, and consider stepping up as a Race Director.
Refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP by emailing BRRCInfo@gmail.com or using the Socializr invitation so we can plan accordingly. We hope you will join us!
You can RSVP, pass this along to your friends, and get announcements about this opportunity using the Socializr invitation.
Marathon Kids Kick-off Celebration
A community event supported by BRRC
Saturday, September 18, 2010
Poly-Western High School track (map) 4600 Falls Road Baltimore, MD 21209
Support a great organization and your community, all while knocking out your GPS volunteer requirement and avoiding running the 50K! More information below.
Gunpowder State Park - Herford Area Bunker Hill Road (parking) Parkton, MD 21120
This event will feature a 50K Fat Ass run - no race fee and racers carry their own support. The course will pass the start several times so you can "freshen up" there, too.
Other runners will have the option to do shorter trail races of 10.5 and 21 miles.
The trail is hilly at times, flat at others, and over 90% on trails.
Members and Non-members: A five dollar donation to the park is suggested, and runners are requested to bring one gallon of water for the water stop.
Registration race day only, at the venue, beginning at 7:15AM. However, please give us your data and print a waiver if you are thinking of coming (no obligation!)
The 30th BRRC Executive Stampede will be held September 19th at Executive Plaza in Hunt Valley. Proceeds from the race fund the Charlie Reynolds scholarships, awarded by BRRC to young runners from our area.
You can use our Socializr invitation for reminders about the event and to forward race information to others who might be interested, but teams will need to fill out an application and team roster.
Please see the application for a description of the team and individual competition, team categories, premiums and prizes. If your team grows beyond the entries on the application, please use the additional entries form to add more participants.
Marathon Kids is free to all participants and is open to students from Baltimore City and Baltimore County public schools and private schools. To learn more, please visit http://marathonkids.org.
The Baltimore Marathon Kids Kickoff Celebration will be held Saturday, 9/18 at the Poly-Western High School track in Baltimore. The Baltimore Road Runners Club is supporting this program again this year and encourages members to volunteer to make the kickoff event successful. Volunteers shifts are available throughout the morning, and count toward fufilling the volunteer requirement of the BRRC Grand Prix Series.
If you can help out, please contact Christy St. Clair at saint15@comcast.net.
Saturday Long Runs
7:00AM or 7:30AM Saturdays throughout the year
alternating between NCR Trail Papermill parking lot (map) and Loch Raven Drive at Morgan Mill (map)
BRRC holds group long runs on Saturday mornings throughout the year. There is no charge for this program. Visitors and non-members are welcome to participate.
The runs alternate between the NCR Trail and Loch Raven Reservoir, so flat and hilly courses are both covered. Occasionally the group will meet at other venues for variety, such as with other groups led by a BRRC member, supported runs on the Baltimore Marathon course, or at local races. Early start times also occur as the weather gets hotter and some participants go further. Please read the Twitter announcements above for the location and start time on the day you plan to attend!
Distance and pace vary as runners with similar goals work together. Runners not targeting the marathon are welcome to run a shorter distance.
Our print application is under revision, but when available you will be able to mail it or bring to the registration table of a BRRC race. The fees will be the same as using the online application.
