Q: Do I have to live in Baltimore to be a member?
A: No. Our membership comes from around the greater Baltimore area, across the country, and even from outside the U.S. We welcome everyone who would like to join! Many of our members are in multiple clubs.
Q: What are the requirements of membership?
A: We ask our members to pay a nominal membership fee to offset the costs of club operations which include hosting and directing races, providing refreshments and premiums, RRCA insurance and other club costs, such as this website. We also ask our members to volunteer at our events. For some of our Programs, such as the Grand Prix Series, volunteering is a requirement to qualify for awards. We are an all volunteer organization and our membership fees go a long ways!
Q: How much does membership cost?
A: The following are membership dues for 2019:
- Full-time Student (not part of a family membership) – $17
- Individual (not a full-time student) – $22
- Family (spouses and children, including students over 18 years, living at same address) – $28
Q: How do I apply for membership?
A: Go to this link and complete the form. We use The Driven for member registration. All renewals happen in December and January.
Q: Once I join, how do I get involved?
A: Check this website for events, contact the BRRC Executive Board (email link at top of the page), come on out! Let members know you are a new member and you will be warmly received. Check back here regularly, as we have events taking place throughout the year, including on weeknights.
Q: What are the benefits of membership in BRRC?
A: Discounted Club race entry fees (some as low as $2), paid entry as BRRC team member in the MD RRCA Club Challenge each February, qualification to participate in the Grand Prix Series, participation in our training programs at no cost, invitations and no cost to our annual Club picnic and membership meeting and other team building events, as well as volunteer opportunities. As a member, you are eligible for additional race day awards, and consideration for annual Club performance and recognition awards.
While these are the tangible benefits, we believe the most significant benefit of membership is the opportunity to promote running in our community. Club membership promotes volunteerism, community outreach, and encourages interaction with other runners at all levels, often leading to lasting friendships.
Q: Are there volunteer requirements for members?
A: We are an all-volunteer organization. We encourage members to volunteer, though we do not require a volunteer commitment, except for those members who choose to participate in the Club’s Grand Prix Series.
Q: How many races does the Club conduct each year?
A: The BRRC hosts approximately 30 events each year. These races vary in distance and complexity, from low-key runs to the NCR Trail Marathon and Half Marathon, run each November, and named by Runner’s World as a “hidden gem” of alternate marathons to consider. Many of our finishers can boast qualifying for the Boston Marathon on our course!
Our Events Calendar can be accessed from the Home page of this site. BRRC encourages its members to participate in these races – in fact, many of them are what we call “Club races,” held specifically for the participation of members, though all runners are welcome to attend.
Q: How do I sign up for races and what do I do on race day?
A: Most Club races are informal and you can register on race day. For larger races, there will be registration information included on our Events Calendar, so be sure to check there and in our Announcements section to learn if there are specific requirements for a race.
Q: Does BRRC offer any running programs to help me get going or to prepare for a certain distance race?
A: Yes, the Club offers a number of running programs, which can be found on our Programs tab. Whether you are new to running or training for a targeted race, you can find a program to fit your needs. We have over 40 RRCA certified coaches who prepare and manage these programs which are designed with your specific goals in mind.
On Saturdays, you can frequently find us running in the Loch Raven Reservoir or at the North Central Railroad Trail.
Q: How do I find out about upcoming races and other club events and meetings?
A: When you become a member, you will receive our regular emails that will keep you up to date. And, come back to this website regularly. Watch our Announcements on the home page and access the Events Calendar. We update the information regularly so that you will know what is next on our calendar.
