Where Are You Running This Weekend?

The Baltimore Road Runners Club (BRRC) wants to make sure you have every opportunity to run with the Greater Baltimore running community. Here is our updates on running opportunities for the weekend and near future.

Saturday
NCR Trail Snails/BRRC Long Run
This week is back with the Trail Snails at the NCR Trail. No one knows the NCR as well as the Snails. The Snails meet at the Mile 0 marker at Ashland road. This is 1/4 mile east of York road off of Paper Mill Road. Ashland Rd leads to a small parking lot. Quiet voices are encouraged to avoid annoying local home occupants. Various paces are likely- perfect for new runners as well as moderately faster runners. Unlimited mileage potentials, so pick your distance. Mile markers are generally accurate. 7:30 am start. More info go to http://ncrtrailsnails.com/.

Pacemakers
The Pacemakers is a great group that meets in different areas of Baltimore City and County. Bob Hilson has mapped out every inch of the Baltimore area and knows every small coffee shop and diner. The group varies from 20-50 on any given Saturday and a runner can usually find a suitable pace with others. Bob also has a written direction map for those who might need it. And, as an extra bonus- he collects old but usable running shoes to be shipped to Haiti. Here is Bob’s info for this week:

Yo, The Run is set for Saturday and, yes, it is truly one of our easier strolls as we tour bits of the Rodgers Forge, Govans, Roland Park, Cedarcroft and Towson University communities.

The party begins at 7 a.m. from Belvedere Square, 529 E. Belvedere Ave., and offers you the chance to run either 3, 6.4, 7, 9, 10, 12, 15, 16 or 17 miles. Free parking.

Congrats to all who raced recently, especially. . .
Megan DiGregorio, Luisa Fairfax and T.J. Bryan at the NCR Half Marathon. Megan was third among the women (she ran this race a week after running the JFK 50 miler in 7 hours and 43 minutes, a 9:15 per mile pace). Luisa (who was the eighth woman and ran it a few minutes faster than she ran the Richmond half two weeks ago) and T.J. (who seems to place in every race she enters) snatched first place hardware in their division.
Liza Greer, who won first place honors in her division at the Hog Trot 5k in Key West, Fla.

Don’t forget the Patterson Park 5k and Homebrew Contest is Saturday and conveniently begins after our run. The race benefits the Patterson Park Public Charter School and other city public school students who hope to take a trip abroad during spring break.

The race is affiliated with B More Global (BMG), a non-profit founded on the belief that travel abroad can be a life-changing experience for young people.

BRRC Winter Solstice 34th Street Fun Run and Happy Hour
December 14th, 6pm
Wear your favorite holiday swag, hat, or sweater!

We will gather from 5:30-6:00 PM at Waverly Brewing, 1625 Union Avenue, for signing in. Everyone must sign in with BRRC!

The Highlight of our Run is the Miracle on 34th Street Christmas Lights. We will stay in groups and accommodate all paces. We will reconvene at one mile to go, at the corner of Chestnut and 34th, directly across the street from the 34th St Christmas Lights. Let’s aim to be back at Waverly and done running at about 7:00. You are welcome to meet us at Waverly at 7:00 to indulge in terrific local craft beers and ciders! BRRC will be treated to the great Waverly drafts while your generous budget lasts with pizza provided by the club.

Waverly has generously opened the brewing area for us, which is more spacious, with higher ceilings, than the public tavern area.

Dress Warm for the Happy Hour! Indoor space is limited for safe social spacing. There is a generous outdoor area with seating that we will be using. Be safe, and let’s celebrate the running lifestyle.

Here’s the route. It will be dark please remember to wear your night gear and headlamp.

The Father Time Frolic is Back!
January 1,2023
9 am

Join us for the first race of the year where runners guess what time they will run the 5 mile course- AND NO WATCHES ALLOWED ON THE RUN. It always amazes me how some can routinely guess their time within a few seconds. Parking and registration is at the Peerces Plantation parking lot, then walk a quarter mile down to the start and finishlines for this out and back course. If I can talk our race directors into a modification- putting your guessed time on a label on your back for an added psychological twist we can up it a notch. Details on volunteer solicitation to follow. Race directors are Sally and Jim Waller
