Where Are You Running This Weekend?

The Baltimore Road Runners Club (BRRC) wants to make sure you have every opportunity to run with the Greater Baltimore running community. Here is our updates on running opportunities for the weekend and near future.

NCR Trail Snails/ BRRC Long Run
Meet up with the NCR Trail Snails running at the Loch Raven Reservoir. The Snails meet at McFauls Restaurant at the corner of Loch Raven Drive at Cromwell Valley Road. 7:30 am start. Good parking as long as we leave by 11am. Various paces are likely- perfect for new runners as well as moderately faster runners. The full loop measures 10 miles if you stay on the roads. Some may opt for a trail option. More info go to http://ncrtrailsnails.com/.

BRRC 10 Miler Training Group

The BRRC 10 Mile Training Group will meet at Loch Raven on Saturday mornings. They will meet at 7:00 am at the corner of Loch Raven Drive and Morgan Mill Road (“The Rock)”. The plan for this week calls for an easy 3.5 mile run. You are still welcome to sign up at BRRC.com and join officially.

The Pacemakers is a great group that meets in different areas of Baltimore City and County. Bob Hilson has mapped out every inch of the Baltimore area and knows every small coffee shop and diner. The group varies from 20-50 on any given Saturday and a runner can usually find a suitable pace with others. Bob also has a written direction map for those who might need it. And, as an extra bonus- he collects old but usable running shoes to be shipped to Haiti. Here is Bob’s info for this week:

Yo, The Run is set for Saturday, a gentle tour of some of the many interesting, infamous and historical spots of West Baltimore, as well as a chance to visit pockets of the Sandtown-Winchester, Harlem Park, McCulloh Homes, Druid Heights, Gilmor Homes, Union Square, Sowebo, Upton, Pigtown and Hollins Market communities.

We launch at 7 a.m. from the Hollins Market, 26 S. Arlington Ave. (at the corner of Hollins Street and Arlington Avenue), and get the chance to run 7.4 (or shorter), 10, 11 or 13 miles. As mentioned before, this run might be a bit slower and include several stops for those who choose to stop. There are no planned stops for the last 5.5 miles.
Congrats to all who raced the Annapolis Running Festival last weekend, especially. . .

* Megan DiGregorio, who was the first woman to finish the half marathon and the 11th overall finisher

* Mark Hyman, who took second place hardware in his division in the half marathon

* Anne Hamel and Harry Bosk, who both took first place honors in their division in the 10k
* Helen Jones and Karsten Hansen, who both took second place 10k hardware in their division

Good luck this weekend to Harry Bosk at the New York City Half Marathon, Missy Coatrieux at the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach and Insung Kim, who will run the St. Patrick’s Marathon in D.C. as a training run for an upcoming 100 miler. Yes, a training run.

Shoes for Haiti?

No organized trail runs this weekend. Most of the usual suspects will be in Salisbury for the Tim Kennard 10 miler and 5k.

On The Horizon
Baltimore’s Saint Patrick’s Day 5k
Friday March 17th, 6:30 pm

Best St. Patrick’s Day party in Baltimore. The Baltimore Road Runners Club (BRRC) will be hosting this race for its 5th time. We hope you celebrate your Irish, or your not so Irish, heritage with us with a run through Baltimore’s most historic park. Feel free to wear your favorite St. Patrick’s Day garb or dress like a leprechaun! Celebrate the run with beer after the race in the courtyard behind Patterson Park Public Charter School (PPPCS)! It’s Saint Patrick’s Day after all.
Course: Want to chase a PR? This might be the course for you! This net-downhill, 100% asphalt course drops 40 feet from start to finish and stays on the wider sections of roadway (no vehicles) through Patterson Park. There is one large climb in the 2nd mile but you’re rewarded with a run-by of the Pagoda and a long descent to the Pulaski Monument before finishing. We will have mile marks and split times

Race director is Graham Peck at gpeck89@gmail.com . Feel free to contact him if you can volunteer

Cost is $30 for BRRC Members and $45 for Non-members.
