BRRC Half Marathon Training Program

Goals and Purpose of Program: The Half Marathon Training Program Group is designed for runners that have some running experience and are looking to participate in fall races ranging in distances up to the half marathon.

The program will safely guide runners through an organized training schedule with the goal of improving their endurance, strength and speed.

Under the leadership of experienced and RRCA certified coaches, runners will be introduced to topics such as proper running techniques, pacing, developing a race strategy, speed work, hydration, dynamic and static stretching, etc.

Prerequisites: Participants interested in the BRRC ½ marathon Training Program should have, at a minimum, some experience running (or run/walking) races that are 5K and/or 10K in length and used to running 3+ days per week.

Workouts: A 15-week schedule will be provided to all participants and can be accessed here.

Dates: July 11, 2109 – October 12, 2019

The group will meet on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Thursday evening – Speed Training – Goucher College, 1021 Dulaney Valley Road Towson, MD 21204

Time: Arrival and warm-up 6:30 – Workout starts promptly at 7:00pm

Saturday mornings – Long Runs

Loch Raven Reservoir (LRR) –Corner of Morgan Mill Road & Loch Raven Drive

NCR Trail – 1237 Sparks Rd, Sparks Glencoe, MD 21152

(location as outlined in training schedule)

Time: Workout starts promptly at 7:00am

Target Race: The Baltimore Running Festival’s Half Marathon.

Note: This training group is free for BRRC members, but you must sign up for and pay the race fees on your own.

This is the continuation of our winter/spring training which focused on the 3 races of the KING CRAB CHALLENGE; the Frederick Half Marathon (May), The Baltimore 10 Miler (June) and the Baltimore Running Festival Half Marathon (October).  Many of our participants have successfully completed the May & June races, but this program is open to anyone interested in the BRF, or a different fall  half marathon.
